Economics is a diverse and fascinating discipline that addresses a range of issues that we face in modern life and plays a central role in shaping our society at every level. The objective of the Economics department is to understand and shape the broad framework of our society. The programs offered by the Department of Economics are designed to provide a general understanding of the functioning of the economic system and the role of institutions, groups, and regions within that system and prepare the student for employment in industry, the professions, government, or to pursue graduate work toward such advanced degrees in economics, business, or related fields.
Welcome to the Department of Economics at Premier University.
As the chairperson (in –Charge) of the department, it is my privilege to extend a warm welcome to all visitors, students and faculty members. Founded in 2006, our department is committed to excellence in education, research and practice.
We inherit a department already distinguished by the calibre of its faculty and the diligence of its students, and it is with genuine enthusiasm that I look toward its continued growth. Economics, properly taught, cultivates far more than an understanding of markets or policy; it disciplines the mind to interrogate assumptions, evaluate evidence with rigour, and engage thoughtfully with the complexities of the world we inhabit.
Our curriculum is designed to hold theoretical depth and practical relevance in balance, encouraging students to situate economic reasoning within the realities of Bangladesh and the broader global context, while remaining firmly anchored in ethical judgment. I am fortunate to work alongside colleagues who regard teaching as a means of provoking thought rather than merely transmitting it, and our departmental club, PUEF, continues to offer students a valuable space for leadership and initiative beyond the formal curriculum. We are committed to creating a supportive and stimulating environment where students can thrive and achieve their full potential.
I look forward to engaging closely with our students and colleagues in the period ahead, and to seeing this department flourish in both scholarly achievement and character to establish unique benchmarks and create a lasting impact in economic and social realm.
With best wishes for academic success.
Dr. Arpita Datta
Assistant Professor & Chairman
